Scout: Jahlil Okafor Could Have Issues Not Being Explosive Around Basket

Apr 24, 2014 12:49 PM

Jahlil Okafor is the top ranked incoming freshman and just completed the circuit of the McDonald's All-American Game, Nike Hoop Summit and Jordan Brand Classic.

Okafor is one of the most polished post players to come out of high school in many years.

“He’s not explosive around the basket and so plays that need to be dunks at our level end up being blockable layups,” said one NBA scout.

“Bigs rise, and he can play immediately so he’ll go top-5 [next year],” said a GM.

Jabari Parker Declares For 2014 NBA Draft

Apr 17, 2014 12:34 PM

Jabari Parker will declare for the 2014 NBA Draft.

"I realize how much of a privilege and an honor it is to join the ranks of the NBA," wrote Parker. "I will do everything in my power to help deliver championships to the franchise that drafts me. At the same time, I recognize the obligation to represent the league in an admirable way off the court."

Parker played one season at Duke.

"Up to this point I haven't given any thought to agents. But now that I've declared, I will turn my attention to the process of choosing someone to represent me. Money was not a factor in my decision to go pro. It won't be a factor in my choice of an agent. My number one criterion in choosing a college coach was an impeccable reputation for integrity. I'm looking for the same thing in an agent.

"This past year at Duke has been a cherished chapter in my life. I'm very fortunate to have worn the blue and white. And I will always carry with me the memories of playing in front of the Crazies at Cameron. Now it's time to write the next chapter. I can't wait to get started."

Jabari Parker Expects Draft Decision After Meeting Coach K

Apr 11, 2014 5:37 PM

Jabari Parker said he expects to make a decision by next Tuesday or Wednesday on whether he will enter the June NBA Draft.

Parker plans to meet Mike Krzyzewski to make his decision.

"It's a very tough decision especially potentially leaving behind my coach and the program that really helped me out this year, so I really have to keep them in consideration in this whole process," Parker said on Friday.

Parker does not view returning for his sophomore season at Duke as risky.

"I think there's no risk," Parker said. "I think the community at Duke has really done a good job of taking care of my safety and they make sure that everything is done by the playbook. My parents, they come from different backgrounds. They don't even value money. My situation isn't the best, but they're not complaining and I've been going on this long so why can't I wait another year? That's the mindset in my head that keeps me moving."
